GRAPEVINE'S UNFORGETTABLE CHARACTERS
Mark Lucas Kelly of the Lucas Family of Funeral Homes will present a program on “Grapevine’s Unforgettable Characters” at our August 27 meeting. Please join us for a look into our city’s past personalities.
The Lucas Family has been a part of Grapevine’s history since the settlement’s early days. In the 1850s Thomas M. Lucas established a store selling “dry goods, groceries, and coffins” southeast of Grapevine.
Lucas sons, grandsons, and great-grandchildren continued the family tradition, which evolved from a general store offering coffins, then funeral services, and eventually transformed into Grapevine’s first real funeral home.
The “Lucas General Store and Undertakers” business relocated to Main Street and that building is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Another Lucas Funeral Home was located on E. Worth Street in what is now a popular restaurant.
Join us for another interesting and informative program. Monday August 27th at the Grapevine Public Library, 7 pm, for tales of a Grapevine Unforgettable Character.
